CSI

crime sceneOutline:
If you love the reading or watching CSI stuff, then this full day of forensics is right up your alley. You will get to be a part of a “real” CSI investigation under the direction of former police officers and discover what it feels like to be a detective for a day.

You will get decked out in the tools of the trade from the gloves to the mask and full body suit so your own DNA does not contaminate the scene. To kick things off, there is a little forensics quiz where you have to identify some basic things used in investigations.

Next, you will learn more about the different methods to take when it comes to the creation of a successful team and how to draw out the best in everyone. You can expect some interesting talks too from experts in a variety of crime fields such as forgery, anti-terrorism and espionage, fraud and more!

The next step in your full day of forensics is to learn about fingerprinting and why it is a unique way of capturing criminals. You will learn how to analyze and administer fingerprinting. After a short break, you will get to find out what crime scene you will be investigating. Event organizers can tailor the crime resemble your company’s field of business so you will identify with it more.

Other CSI activities you may try include:

Shoe Casting - Sometimes, criminals leave their mark at a crime scene in the form of a shoeprint or an impression pressed into a surface such as earth. You will learn why these impressions are so important to a crime scene as well as how to cast it. Plaster and water are the two key ingredients but there is a special way to mix them together so as not to ruin the shoe impression. Mess it up and your evidence is gone!

Reconstructing Documents - A criminal may think they were clever at destroying paper evidence but often times CSI staff can reconstruct documents from just a few paper remnants. You will learn how this process if done and why it is important to forensic science.

Fingerprint Fun - Thanks to the oils left behind on the fingertips, you can often lift fingerprints from surfaces using special dusting powder and a brush. This is a real handy skill to have when trying to catch the bad guys.

Dental Bites - Forensic dentistry is quite cool as dentists in this field can identify who has bitten what in the scheme of things. Teeth are unique and they provide a way to identify someone during a crime scene.

Handwriting Examination - Analyzing handwriting and how it slopes left or right can say a lot about a suspect such as whether they are left or right handed. What does your own handwriting reveal about you? You and your team mates get to find out!

CSI Mind Games - The field of forensic psychology can be quite a trip, especially in the mind of a hardened criminal. Learning a perpetrator’s behavior and general patterns can help you anticipate their next move or at least build a case against them. You will discover that some people are prone to violence and try to find out why.

Court Grandstanding - A mock trial is held to hear your case and provide “closure” to the crime scene. Rustle up those acting skills as you may find yourself testifying as a witness or serving as a member of the defense or prosecution. You may even find yourself serving as judge or part of the jury. Court role playing is all part of this full day forensics activity.

After a break for lunch, you will get to use real software used by the FBI to construct the face and profile of a criminal. Exploring the different facial features is quite interesting and a great way to test how the software works. You should expect periodic quizzes CSI-style along with general criminal knowledge questions.

Hopefully by the end of the day your team will have cracked the case, identifying the criminal. The day’s leaders will wrap things up with a cool talk as well as present prizes for the best detectives of the day.
